Tropical Dreaming

 

In January my mind usually starts dreaming of a  vacations, Tropical Vacations to be exact.  Someplace nice  where the Sun is Shinning, the Breezes are Warm and the Water is Lapping on the Beach.

Maybe an Old Sugar Cane House on Antigua

What about  in a Hammock on the Yucatan?

Perhaps a Cozy Conch Cottage in Key West

While in Key West, a Sunset Cruise

(Did you know that I once lived in Key West)?

 

Watching the Flamingos Play in Aruba

How about a Stoll on the Beach in Tahiti?

or maybe even

  Snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef

I’m  the one with the   BIG   EYES !!!

Your Eyes would get Big too if this thing swam up beside you and wanted to Snuggle.

A Little Camera Love

 

  Bet there are a lot of you sitting in front  of a fire  or cuddled up in a nice warm throw with a good book  or a computer keyboard this week!    It’s a great time to bake  too, with the extra warmth from the oven.

I’ve been trying to get acquainted with my new camera.

   Really?   No.   Actually,  this little  Brownie box  camera was given to me by     my deceased Mother-in-Law.   By the way, she had amazingly  beautiful skin.     This Brownie is always on display somewhere in my home and  is moved around to suit my whims.  Usually is sits on a stack of books.

But currently is it is looking pretty  in a table top arrangement in my living room and Posing here with the Vintage Books,   a gift from Carol at  Our Sears Kit Home.

 

The Brownie Six-16 was made of metal in the USA  by the Eastman Kodak Company and was first introduced in 1946 and discontinued in the early ‘50’s.  The original cost was $4.00.   A bit less than we pay today,  isn’t it? 

Many of you may have one of these around your house or remember them from your parents or grandparent’s home.   It’s just a little family treasure  that probably holds it’s own little treasure chest of memories, but  hopefully it enjoys it’s life  now…just sitting around in my home.

A Stroll through Quebec City

  On a  recent trip to  Quebec City,  I discovered a  stunning city with  breathtaking Fall color  (something usually not seen  in my part of  Texas.)

Quebec City  is one of the oldest cities in North America and the old part of the city still has it's fortified walls. 

Although  fascinated with taking pictures of architectural details such as doors,  windows, steeples and such (and have  a lot of them),  I  was really taken by the spirit of the street scenes.

Not sure what was going on in here but the translation is“skin to skin”.

But,  I do know what was going on in here:  Fabulous French  Food  which was  oh si delicieux et fortement recommande!

Joys of Blogging

There are so many things to  Love about  Blogging,  and the month of December brought about another  Fun  Reason,  TWO to be exact:  Winning  gifts in Give-Aways. 

 

Oh!  The Thrill. 

The first Surprise came from   Carol at Our Sears Kit Home.   The gift was a collection of Vintage items:  a White Enamelware Pan with a  beautifully edged piece of Vintage Linen  along with a collection of Three Vintage Books by Grace Livingston Hill,  More than Conqueror,   The Strange Proposal,  and  The Best Man,  the earliest of which was published in 1913.   According to the publisher,  she was a  “writer of romance for the Modern Girl where a sympathetic buoyant spirit conquers discouragement and teaches that true love and happiness will come out of the worst trial.”

 Carol and her family live in a 1909 home that came in a “kit” from the Sears, Roebuck and Co.  Catalog.   Do stop by for a visit and see her lovely home and read  it’s interesting history.

 Then,  the very same week,  another surprise!  The next gift was from  Vanessa at Southern in my Heart.  The gift was an oversized tea-towel featuring the 12 Days of Christmas, and is far to pretty to use.  So, just hang it and let up and show it off.  Along with the tea-towel was a Book of Poetry named  Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolias by Patricia Neely-Dorsey and a lovely pewter cup. 

 Vanessa is the Gracious Southern Girl at Heart  Hostess  to a weekly  Party  (another thing to Love about Blogging)  each Friday.   Be sure to drop by to see all the lovely projects and decorating ideas.

Thanks to both of these ladies for the lovely gifts and introducing me to another Joy of Blogging!  (Maybe this could turn into a television series or book  like  Days of our Lives  or  Joy of Sex).  The Poetry book has been finished and will be referred to often,  and I do plan on reading the books, beginning with The Best Man.   (Something every woman deserves……The Best Man!

Christmas Day Wedding Anniversary

My Great-Grandparents were Married  107 years ago on
 Christmas Day,   December 25,  1893.

Just as today, White was the popular choice for weddings; however
some brides, especially the frontier and pioneer brides, wore
dark dresses that were more practical and could be worn
after the wedding.   The dark  wedding dresses  were fashionable
 for the day,  and  little alteration was needed for the Dress
to be perfect to wear again.

A Little Romance

 

A Full Moon occurred in October while we were in Quebec City.   My husband, being the romantic he is, called me out onto the balcony to view the moon just as another cruise ship was sailing.  It was quite a stunning site and I was able to catch this picture (remember, it’s just a point and shoot).

  

  Forward to December,  this little story does not include pictures as my hands were full of pie crusts when it occurred.   As you know the Winter Solstice and an Eclipse both  occurred  in the early morning on December 21,  a rare occurrence. 

Tuesday night my husband called me to look at the moon with him.   It was Full,  Huge and Brilliant !!   A real beauty to behold.   He was so  sweet to share this moment with me…….even if he was calling me from his car on the way to his regular Tuesday night poker game.

What a romantic!
