Change of Season

The antique dough bowl evolves into another season with a simple and easy change.
The poinsettias are gone along with the
red candle.  More antler sheds and pinecones were added along with a large three-wick candle
in the center, making it plain and simple for
 long winter’s nap.

The week before Christmas I lucked into finding a red flannel plaid tablecloth, marked down 80%.  Then I had a 30% off coupon, plummeting  a $43 tablecloth to  $6.00.    What’s a girl to do?  I brought two.  The one on the dining room table has already had a daily workout with family meals.  (I have lots of company)  and works perfectly with the revamped
dough bowl centerpiece.
The other will be cut down to use on a square breakfast table with enough left over for napkins or  another sewing project.

I also like the way the masculinity of the centerpiece  looks juxtaposed against the femininity  of the heavy throw with
 applique, embroidery and deep fringe.

For  yet another look, I used a reversible throw of velvet and chenille.   The possibilities are almost endless:  an antique grain sack, a vintage patchwork quilt, a burlap runner and more.

One of these days when it’s empty and not just morphing into another look, I will show you pictures of her in all her nekked beauty.

Until next time, Honey

  2. Your dough bowl is just a perfect vessel to decorate with. There's so much you can do to change it up. I think I have the same plaid tablecloth, but I was not as lucky as you to get it for $6.00.

  8. Beautiful! I am a huge fan of "winter" decor--as opposed to "Christmas" decor. Don't get me wrong, I love my Christmas stuff, but love to decorate for Jan-Mar with winter-ish items like pinecones and seedheads.

  28. Honey,
lovin your dough bowl, pincones, antlers and candle! Totally my style! I also have a very similar tablecloth, is there anything better then red and plaid? Well, maybe red & brown paisley and everything else you showed! I also have a dough bowl but am using a large wooden bowl on my coffee table with the same as yours minus the candle! Wait, does this mean "great minds think a like" or that we both just have fabulous taste?
Happy belated New Years, can't wait to hang out at more of your wild whoops I mean fabulous parties!

  42. Such a beautiful combination of elements. I am on the hunt for some antlers. I saw some at an antique store and they were quite expensive. I know I can find some cheaper. LOL I just love your dough bowl, it truly reminds me of the one my Gramma used to make buttermilk biscuits in. I have repeatedly told my Mom (who inherited it) that her baby daughter should be the recipient of it next. ;-)

Thanks for joining in my first Wild About Mother Nature party. I plan on making this a monthly event so please come back again. Blessings, Barb
