Age Old Cure

Today I could be doing a commercial for  a head cold or sinus medication.  This morning I woke up with full blown head cold misery, sinus congestion,  sore throat, pounding head  and a body that feels like it’s been run over by a bulldozer.

Does something like this ever happen at a convenient time.  Don’t think so!

If it weren’t so hot, I would want to be soaking  in a tub of steamy water with essential oils to open my head and soothe my aches and pains.

I would not mind do that in one of these dreamy concoctions.

French elegance with gorgeous chandelier and French doors opening to the garden.  The stone floor is layed in a Versailles pattern.

Lovely with it’s curvy  arch window and cute chandy.

And while we are speaking French, take a look at these glamorous mirrored vanities and the white marble.

Oh-so Shabby Chic with a claw foot tub and a vintage mantle and the gorgeous chandelier, of course!

Masculine elegance with the wood floors and large breakfront.

And since I’m not a picky person, don’t you think this   bath  opening to ocean side decks would make me feel so-o-o much better?

I hope you will join me for
every Friday beginning  September 2.

August Flower

The August  birth flower is the gladiolus which means sincerity and symbolizes strength of character.

Love at first sight is what the hidden message of this flower was during the
Victorian era.

Glads make me giddy, especially when they were red,  so how could I pass them by  a few days ago when my grocery store had them priced:
Buy 2 at 3.33 ea.- Get one Free

Enough to fill two containers!   That’s a nifty buy for any tabletop.

Vases

While browsing for inspiration, I came across these unusual vases.

How ingenious to make vases  from used light bulbs!

Jars bound to pieces of driftwood.

I really have no idea what this was made from.   Perhaps pieces of  hollow branches, painted white then tied together.   Any clue?

And these:  a wonderful wall display of  hanging jars at various heights from a branch.

All the above images can be located on my Pinterest Page.

All such cute ideas!    Although I've used pitchers, ice buckets and baskets,  here are a few others.   Mine aren’t new or unusual or even inspired, but I do like them.

An antique copper kettle I purchased about a
100 years ago for a song.

A coffee can wrapped in burlap and tied together with twine.

And  precious little boy Ropers!  The best part is I know the little feet that walked in these.
 The sweetest!

I hope you will join me for
every Friday beginning September 2.

Potpourri Friday

Friday, September  2 will be the inauguration on a new Link-y Party called  “Potpourri Friday”
Potpourri is derived from the French  “pot pours”, which means  stew.  By definition it is an assortment, mélange, medley, mixed bag, collection, mixture or smorgasbord.
You may link up your creative posts on décor, gardening,  DIY projects,  crafts,  recipes,  thrifty finds,  or photography.  After all, it’s a
Potpourri Party!

I hope that you will take the button on the sidebar (hey, it’s free!)  and help spread the word.   Next Thursday afternoon, Sept 1, will be the kick-off!
I do hope that you will  join me for a potpourri of ideas!
Until next time,  Honey

Botanical Potpourri

Last year I made some homemade potpourri, but in the form of using larger botanicals instead of the smaller pieces we normally think of potpourri of being.

The components were purchased in bulk quantities and then put together in sacks which I used for gifts.

The starting point was rose hips, which I flavored with orange and spice essential oils.
After the fragrance melded together, I used
1-1/2  cups of rose hips at the bottom of each sack, and then piled in the dried botanicals.

Botanicals used included dried artichokes, pomegranates, quince,

red repen flowers, cedar roses, lotus pods,

plumosum stars, protea flowers, and a few others.

It’s not only pretty for Fall, but the fragrance is nice too!

Many in Blogland are thinking Fall.  It’s difficult for me with the temps we have had all Summer, but if you plan on creating your own personal  concoction of potpourri, it’s time to get started to give the essential oils time to blend.

I hope you will join me for
Potpourri  Friday
on September 2.

I would be delighted if you would grab my party button, spread the word and join me!

Power Outage and Dark Clouds

Minutes after a power failure this afternoon (and this was no rolling blackout), I  became so excited.  I heard  a wind chime symphony.

The wind had blown a potpourri of crepe myrtle blooms into the pool.

Looked up and saw something I haven’t seen in maybe two months.  It was so exciting, I grabbed my camera!  Clouds!  They were dark.  It almost looked like rain.  There was even a distant rumble.

But did it rain?  Not. Even. A. Single. Drop!  We are stuck in a seemingly endless drought.

Now, back to the power outage problem.  It  happened about 4:30 in the afternoon.  After 65 days or so of temps above 100-degrees, and it was only 107-degrees today,  guess a large portion of our part of town just gave out today.
Exhausted!

I hope you will join me for
Potpourri  Friday
on September 2.

Swinging

Come sit with me for a while on the porch swing.  How ‘bout an iced tea or  lemonade.  Where should we sit while we visit?

The one suspended from heavy ropes with the fabulous tropical fabrics?   It  says  “Let’s have tropical punch.”

What's better than a porch swing overlooking the ocean?   Why two, of course!  Make them nice and wide enough  (so you don’t roll off)  for a nap.

Perhaps this one,   black perked up with bright yellow.

Crispy white accented with bright reds.

How cute is this Adirondack swing?

We could enjoy  a swing under the shade of the trees.

I’m still dreaming  in fairy-tale land.

Until next time, Honey
