Meow, Meow

This cat was recently found hiding in one of my closets.   Probably because I don’t use him in my decor.  But  s(he) does provide a great example of some of the  little projects that can be done with an antique or  vintage quilt or part of  one that is can no longer be used as bedding.   Actually, the cat is also vintage since he has made is home in the closet for so long.

006

Overall, it is about 17” long  and is about 12”  tall.
The quilt used here was originally stitched together  by hand.   The  picture below  shows the tiny little hand made stitches  where  the fabric was pieced together.    Of course, it was also hand quilted.

This close-up below shows the  aged and yellowed antique lace  that was  used as the collar.

The project is really a very nice way to salvage, or make cute vintage “thingys”  from a vintage quilt  that was once so lovingly  pieced together.

Later this week, look for news of a GIVEAWAY  !!

I will be joining the following parties.  Please stop  by and visit these Gracious Hostess and leave some Comment Love for the Party Guests and Hostesses.  We all so Love Comments,  don’t we?

  4. So sweet. I love it when we can save and reinvent things. Although I would never cut up a quilt in good condition, I've cut into many a "cutter" over the years -- and the nice thing is the "cutters" can usually be had very inexpensively :)

  5. Precious kitty. It is amazing what can be done with old quilts. My daughter inherited one of her grandmother's rocking chairs. It happened to be an upholstered chair. She had it professionally upholstered with one of grandmother's old quilts that was tattered.
The upholsterer thought she was crazy. Afterwards he posted photos of the chair in his shop. Go Figure.
Thanks for following, I am following you back and I will be back to sign up for the giveaway. Hugs, Ginger

  7. Great idea and it helps keep part of the vintage quilt alive. I love quilts and hate seeing them so torn. You did a good thing with this one.

  10. Hi Honey,

I remember those kitties. She is adorable!

One year I used my parents old worn out quilt that was made by my Grandma to make throw pillows for everybody. I also cut out stars from it to give as Christmas ornaments, with names and the year on the back.

Thank you so much for stopping by to say hello!

  18. This is a great project idea, Honey! My mom collected antique quilts when I was a child and their beauty stays with me today. I can't usually afford the nicer ones at estate sales but now I'll have to keep an eye out for the not-so-nice ones to salvage. :) I'm also hoping to try my hand at quilting (probably simple patchwork to start with) this year to create a vintage-looking quilt. I <3 vintage quilts!
