Sunday Swim

We had visitors on Sunday Afternoon!  Our niece Hattie and her Hubby came and brought their baby, 15-month old  Charlotte,  to swim.   Charlotte  couldn’t wait to get in the water for some playtime with her Mommy!

And what is she wearing?  A  Pink swimsuit and Pink  tennis shoes. of course!   What else?

Glamour Shots

This angel absolutely refused to sit for a  “before”  picture.  She was having none of that.   First, she  got a bath and  shampoo.   After  her spa treatment, we  got to work.

I took a cue from sweet Rosemary at Villabarnes, who shared  her gesso technique here.  If you haven't met Rosemary, please do.  She has tons of great ideas!   Rosemary used a brush to take off the excess gesso and sanded for highlights.
Working  on  a section at  a time, I  slathered on the gesso with a brush and took off the excess with  a cloth,  leaving the gesso thicker in some places.  Originally she was an ugly  greenish-gray and I wanted some of her undercoat to show through.  I did not sand,  but  left  lowlights.    She now had  soft matte, chalky-looking finish and was ready for her glamour shots.

Okay,  her eyes are a bit creepy.   Unfortunately that sometimes happens “as we age”.   Or so I've been told.

She likes it better when photographed from her Good  Side.

And with low saturation.

Unlike  some angels, she does not subscribe to this quote:

The reason angels can fly is because they take themselves lightly.  ~ G.K. Chesterton

Until next time,   Honey

St Malo, France

St. Malo , France, an old walled city on the Brittany Coast,  has so much to offer:
 A lovely harbor,

 Stunning homes,

Beaches

Ramparts encircling the old city and the old city within the walls.

What is he pointing to?   The sea?   England?  The New World?

Or maybe to this cute little Bistro just inside the ramparts.

Actually the statue is that of the  swashbuckling corsair Robert Surcouf (hero of many daring 18-century raids on the British navy), eternally wagging an angry finger over the waves at England .

After walking the ramparts, we strolled through the Old City.

The  cathedral boasted beautiful stained glass.

A small square  was blooming  with color.

And a few were napping in the Sunshine!

Perfect Refreshment

This outdoor set was long overdue for a little refreshment.
It’s amazing what a little Rustoleum glossy white paint can do.

With temps now above100 degrees, this chore was completed just in time.

Bruges, Belgium Wedding

Since we are attending a wedding today, perhaps we all should pour a glass of champagne to celebrate while we read!
We were in Bruges, Belgium on a beautiful, warm Saturday.  The town is  tremendously cute with a large town square.   Outside of one of the buildings  we came upon a bicycle delivery cart that was decorated  .
We inquired of someone standing nearby and she informed us that this was City Hall and that weddings were taking place inside, and that we would  probably  see couples come out every 15-20 minutes.
She was waiting on her friend who in fact would be using the cart.   We asked the significance of the bicycle delivery cart.  She laughed and said, “He can’t afford a carriage”.
We were hooked and decided to wait for the happy couple to emerge.

They had a group of friends and family waiting,  and were immediately showered with rice and heart shaped confetti.

They were obviously enjoying themselves.

The bride stopped  to  graciously  accept flowers from a number of children.   Not a child with flowers was ignored.   This little blond-headed girl was just precious!

The groom takes a little step-stool out of the carriage for her assistance in  entering.

The happy bride’s face glowed and she laughed with glee!

Another picture or two and they were ready to depart!

It may not have been a  golden carriage, but they loved it.    He tested his horn and off they rode, waving to everyone.

And hopefully  they will live
 Happily Every After!

Until next time,  Honey
