Brenda is a talented, creative lady with a terrific blog.  She is the purveyor of creative projects,  great photography,  special features like Welcome Wagon Friday,  and the go-to gal for Blogging Tips on Mondays.

Scarves and Jars and Giveaway Reminder

After the Holidays,  my eyes needed a rest, so the  Living Room Tabletops have been clean, using fewer  elements for January.   Both the side table and cocktail table scarves were  changed to gold and creamy white.  The side table apothecary jar was filled with Pinecones.
005
My Vintage Brownie Camera was added.  If you want to see his story and have him wink at you he will.
017
Add some Vintage Books and a Tassel.
015
A  Crystal Candy Dish and a little Pomegranate made of pewter and purchased in Greece.  Pomegranates are for good luck.
Silver 038
The cocktail table has a matching gold and cream scarf, all scrunched up.  The apothecary jars are filled  with Dried Botanicals.
039
Plus a few Classic Books
028
Some decorative Carnelian Beads from Greece

Really Thrify Find & Giveaway Reminder

Giveaway  Reminder:  $30 Your Choice Gift Card
Usually I don’t attend many garage sales since I don’t get out early enough to get anything but the leftovers, or am on my way somewhere and just don’t have time to stop and look.
But…
Looks what I found!!
A shoebox of Silverplate!!  I grabbed it up quickly since it looked like there could be some really good pieces  among the tarnish and corrosion.  Some even looked as if they had been run over by a trashing machine or dug up in the garden.
Silver 004
There hasn’t been enough time to clean & polish all of them yet, but  moi did clean up a few to show you an example.
Silver 015
When they are all cleaned up,  I’ll show you more.  Just couldn’t pass up a chance to show these off.
All of that pink reflection is from… I confess, my pajamas!

Now, be sure to check  out my $30.00 Your Choice Gift Card Giveaway…Home Depot or Hobby Lobby.  Stop in and Nannette and Babbette will give you the details.   Just please don’t say that I called them Vintage Thingies.  They would really be upset if they knew.  They're sensitive.

Parson Goes Wild

 Parson Goes Wild

Once upon a time the parson  parson’s bench was ugly,  plain and ordinary with a bit of shine especially in the light.  Why?  Because he and his twin were covered in gold, yes gold, vinyl.  They were sturdy and well made except for the upholstery.

031

That all changed when they went wild with animal instincts.  Using upholstery weight cotton velvet, they Metamorphosed into:

 019

Using only one yard of fabric for each bench, stockings (or sleeves) were made for the legs.  After pulling them on, measuring and cutting the fabric, it was a simple matter of wrapping them like a gift, with pleated corners,  and stapling underneath.

025

Once they had a new Look

015

They were ready to go to a few  Parties.

Vintage Vignette & Free Download For You

This is a repost of my post, dated November 16, 2010, connecting to Chari's Sunday Favorites at Happy to Design
Other Business:   Don't Miss the $30 Gift Card
Vintage Vignette & Free Download For You

This Vintage Tabletop is in a guest bedroom, which is also quite vintage.  The bed,
dresser and side table are all Antiques, and live along with a few other goodies.
Elements of the arrangement  include a White Birdcage with a rusted peaked roof…We all
seem  afflicted with a  bit of Rust Love.
003
Add layered crocheted pieces, some passed down from family
and some acquired.
015
Throw some Magnolias and rolled sheet music into the Birdcage.
019
Tuck in a  vintage crocheted piece that looks somewhat like  a Lace Hanky,   Hang  a Pearl
Necklace and add a couple of Vintage Bottles.
024
Don’t forget the Old Wedding Ring Pillow!
007
To complete the arrangement add   Cherished Vintage Family Photos along with a few
Adopted Relatives who needed a Good   Home and someone to Love them.
035
All reflected in the Vintage Dresser Mirror, and Voila!
002
Since I am a new to Blogging,  anxious to make friends  and receive your comments,  here’s
a little GIFT from Me to  You.    Please use it in your Art,  and show me what you do with
it,  si vous s'il vous plaît.   To be honest  since my college French is as rusty as  the
birdcage,  I used Google Translate.

Far Above Rubies

“Far   Above  Rubies”
Please meet my Grandmother.   January 23 would have been here Birthday.  Needless to say, she left a lifetime impression on me, and has always been my greatest Inspiration.
The best description of her can be made in
Proverbs 31:10  “….For her worth is far above rubies”
grandmother 021
In the picture below she was probably  about 5 years old.
scan0010
When I Married, she gave me a lovely, delicate handkerchief of linen and lace which was made in Germany.  She had a box of these that she saved to give her Granddaughters as their “Something Old”   to carry  when they married.  As a little girl,  she would indulge me when often I wanted to look at this box of handkerchiefs.

Isn’t the lace beautiful.
grandmother 008
When she passed away,   I was given the Gold Wedding Band  that my Grandfather gave her when they Married.  It is inscribed with his initials:  EK.

Because of her,  my goal is to be
an ancient woman of wisdom.

Meow, Meow

This cat was recently found hiding in one of my closets.   Probably because I don’t use him in my decor.  But  s(he) does provide a great example of some of the  little projects that can be done with an antique or  vintage quilt or part of  one that is can no longer be used as bedding.   Actually, the cat is also vintage since he has made is home in the closet for so long.

006

Overall, it is about 17” long  and is about 12”  tall.
The quilt used here was originally stitched together  by hand.   The  picture below  shows the tiny little hand made stitches  where  the fabric was pieced together.    Of course, it was also hand quilted.

 003
This close-up below shows the  aged and yellowed antique lace  that was  used as the collar.

002
The project is really a very nice way to salvage, or make cute vintage “thingys”  from a vintage quilt  that was once so lovingly  pieced together.

Later this week, look for news of a GIVEAWAY  !!

I will be joining the following parties.  Please stop  by and visit these Gracious Hostess and leave some Comment Love for the Party Guests and Hostesses.  We all so Love Comments,  don’t we?
